Who we are looking for
Our graduates will have the opportunity to contribute to various projects and work in areas such as
population health, community services, health services, housing, Indigenous health and welfare, information
management, and specialist technical and methodological support.
We are seeking graduates with demonstrated experience and knowledge in:
To be successful in our generalist roles, you will have well-developed skills in research design, data analysis
and integration, interpreting and manipulating statistics, reporting, and project management. You will also
have qualifications or relevant work experience in one or more social and health science disciplines,
including health economics, health information management, public health, epidemiology, humanities,
sociology, psychology, and computer science.
Due to the technical nature of our work, we also have some highly specialised roles which focus on statistical
analysis, data science and web content design and development. To be considered for these roles, you will
have well-developed subject matter knowledge in areas including statistical methodology, information
architecture, data linkage, machine learning, metadata, coding (SAS, Python, SPSS and/or STATA etc.),
classifications and terminologies, SNOMED-CT or XML data analytics, computer science, or programming.
You will also be able to manipulate and interrogate complex datasets using a range of software and be able
to assist with the preparation of reports and publications.
For these more specialised roles, we are looking for graduates with qualifications or relevant work
experience in statistics, demography, data science, mathematics, actuarial studies, accounting, data mining,
science journalism, predictive modelling, or geospatial/GIS (geographic information system) mapping.
Position Summary
As an AIHW Graduate you will contribute to the development of high-quality reports and other information
products that are used to help shape the policies and programs that lead Australia’s health, aged care,
wellbeing, support for families and minority groups, and diseases.
We are increasingly making use of data science with advanced analytics techniques such as predictive
modelling, machine learning, and data mining. We also have a strong focus on research and information
sharing and work in collaboration with international organisations such as the World Health Organisation
(WHO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
